
Ogunquit Memorial Library Board of Trustees seeks a self-motivated forward
thinking individual with proven leadership to serve as Library Director for this
historic, well loved library located on Shore Road in Ogunquit, Maine.
The director manages all aspects of public library operation in keeping with the
mission of the OML and policies adopted by the Board of Trustees.
This responsible administrative role requires a broad range of knowledge of
principles and practices of public library functions as well as a leadership
philosophy that is cooperative and inclusive. The ideal candidate will have
excellent written and verbal communication abilities with staff, the Board, and the
public as this is a visible position at the library with significant public interaction.
The Library
This iconic 1897 Romanesque Revival building, which is on the national registry
of historic places, houses a collection of 10,500 items within its stone walls. It is a
beloved landmark located in the Town of Ogunquit which is home to 1500 full
time residents but sees many thousands of visitors from June through
September. The OML in turn sees a significant increase of patrons during that
time but far less during October through May.
The OML is a public library within the MSL definition and as such enjoys many
benefits for patrons such as interlibrary loan van service and free internet. We
are also participate in the Balsam Consortium.
Currently the Board of Trustees is finalizing a strategic plan that will enhance and
sustain the future for the library’s historical building, fundraising, and library
services.
